Features & Specs

We've standardized the way every brand thinks about their smart device features to make them easy to compare.

Wireless Installation Possible: Yes

This doorbell can be installed completely wirelessly, but it can also be hardwired to supply constant power to the battery.

Requires Drilling: No

Ring sells a no-drill mounting bracket that is compatible with this doorbell for those who prefer a no-drill installation.

Video Recording Storage: Cloud Storage

Ring doorbells store video recordings on the cloud, which requires a subscription. They can technically also store recordings locally, but it still requires a subscription (the highest Ring Protect tier), which removes one of the main benefits of using local storage. This option also requires a Ring Alarm Pro base station. You can't do both local and cloud storage, so if you choose local, your recordings are not backed up on the cloud.

Overhead View Capability: No

This doorbell does not have overhead view capabilities.

Pre-Recording: No

This doorbell doesn't have pre-recording.

Camera Resolution: 1536x1536

This doorbell streams and records video in 1536x1536 resolution. Ring calls this "1536p," which isn't an established resolution like 1080p. This doorbell's aspect ratio is 1:1, which means that what Ring refers to as 1536p is 1536x1536.

Needs Recharging: Maybe

If used wirelessly, this doorbell will need to be periodically recharged. If hardwired, it will be recharged via electrical power but may still need recharging occasionally if the trickle charge is not sufficient.

Ring doorbells can notify you from an Amazon Echo speaker if someone rings the bell.

Removable Battery: Yes

Native Mobile App: Ring

The Ring app will provide the best experience when managing Ring doorbells.

Package Detection: Yes

With a Ring Protect subscription, this doorbell can tell if a package has been left at your door and will notify you.

Amazon Alexa Compatibility: Full

Amazon owns Ring, and so this product is fully compatible with Amazon Alexa. Ring doorbells can be controlled using Alexa voice commands, video can be streamed to Amazon devices, and Amazon Echos can be used as chimes.
